Make no Bones about it

Dress to impress
OK, I haven't talked about it in, like, forever, because this season of Bones has pretty much sucked. It's not so horrible that it makes me violently angry (like House did before I quit watching), and David Boreanaz's character has fared better than most of them.  But watching for Booth and Cam??  I don't know who Emily Deschanel pissed off, but the characterization of Brennan has been waaaaay off this season.  It's like the writers sat around and watched a marathon of old Star Trek episodes and said, "YESSSSSSSSS!!!  We will make her Spock!"  Yeah, she's always been scientist girl, but they have her acting like she has no concept of our Earth logic this season.  *eyeroll*   And I'd like to jam a spork in Angela's eye, or better yet, just duct tape her mouth closed because everything she says makes me want to whap her upside the head with a newspaper, or run screaming from the room.  Poor Hodgins just gets to react to everything and do stupid push ups when they finally go head to head with the Gravedigger, who turns out to be a woman, who somehow managed to drag Booth out a window, down a fire escape, into the trunk of her car, onto a ship that's being sunk, into the hold of said ship, and finally, into a tiny yellow submarine that's in the hold of the ship.  Sure, the tiny, 120lb max woman who looks to be about 5'2" and of average strength could do all that.  The eyerolling and handwaving that goes with watching an episode of Bones could quite possibly qualify as an aerobic workout.  Cam has been OK, but they throw the giant Backstory Is Us episode at us last week that ends with her becoming a foster parent to the child we never knew she even cared about.  The fact that it was remotely believable in terms of the show is just proof of how ridiculous this season has been.  And there's the parade of wanabe Zac's, who of course could never fill his shoes.   At least they're not  really trying to.

It's like I used to watch a serious show that had some humor in it, and now it's a humorous show that has some drama in it.  I don't think shows can pull off procedural and goofy at the same time.  Well, Psych kind of can, but it's not the same thing.  And as much as I enjoy Psych, I don't want Bones to go that direction.  If you're a pomergranate, you shouldn't try to be a pineapple just because you both start with the letter P.

Aw, sorry about your show. I was never a regular watcher, but the couple episodes I watched this season did seem really different in tone.

Only a foodie would make the pomegranate analogy :)

I had to work the pineapple in there as a Psych shout out. :)

It's almost getting to the point that it's so stupid, it's fun to watch just to make fun of. I don't know how Booth has avoided the character assassination that has befallen everyone else (Ranger training? Sniper skills?), but he's held up pretty well. It's almost enough to keep me happy. More shirtlessness would do the trick.

ITA. Brennan has been way off this season, I don't even really care about her anymore. And I'm kind of just watching everyone else to see what they do with them. Booth is still my man though.

Although this latest episode did have me laughing a lot. The ridiculousness of Billy Gibbons being Angela's dad and his actions towards Hodgins are just hilarious. Sweets: "The whole selling your soul at the crossroads thing? I'm buying it. You gotta run, man!"

I love Billy Gibbons as her dad too. The last scene where Hodgins wakes up in god knows where with the tattoo was really funny! It's not like I hate the show, it's just that I don't care about it like I used to (at all).

ITA about Booth. He's the only one who's managed to escape most of the crappy writing this season, other than a few moments.

The crossroads thing and Sweets trying to tell Billy Gibbons that psychology was his mojo. Total shout-out to Princess Bride there... "you misunderstand what that means". Hee! I love me some ZZ Top, and Billy Gibbons was awesome.

The rest of it? Not so awesome! I'm getting a little tired of the whole "rational science people are not like the rest of you" thing. It's very hackneyed, especially the way they only use it to try to sell their ridiculous notions of sexuality - and unevenly, at that.

I used to love Angela, but not so much this season. They ruined her character when they broke her and Hodgins up. Brennan, I'm getting meh about. They'd better do something spectacular if they expect me to keep believing that Booth is secretly in lurve with her and they have the sexual tension.

That's one of the things that really aggravates me, because I used to really like Angela and now - duct tape. She was always a free spirit, but she wasn't like she is now.

And *yes* on the whole rational science people thing. Seriously, it's like someone with a Spock fixation is leading the writing.

Having grown up with scientists (physicists, chemists, nuclear researchers), I can say with authority that they are not mindless automotons. They can interact with people who do not have doctorates, do not randomly insult people in the soft-sciences, and can have long-term relationships and even children who are completely able to function in society.

And yes, wasn't the "fire in the hole!", wait two minutes, and then throw-Bones-to-the-wall-to-cover-her-with-his-body COMPLETELY believable!

Bless your little heart. You were much kinder that I am.

Who knows what changes were made to the writers' room this year but I think they were all beaten with a stupid stick. What's really sad is Emily Deschanel's face when she says some of the lines. She knows how bad they are.

Booth isn't even in it as much as he used to be. The interns of the week are, mostly, horrendous, Hodgins should be much better used and Sweets can disappear entirely. Gah.

Two new episodes next week. Joy. And then it's almost the season finally. Maybe they can turn a couple more characters into serial killers and get rid of them.

Season FINALE finally. I can't remember the last time I wanted a show to end this much.
